Shared reading trends

2 new trends I am definitely up for!
Silent book clubs are popping up in bookshops, libraries, cafes and other community spaces that allow people to gather. These places may offer coffee and other drinks, comfy chairs, books or just a nice vibe, as well as the joy of being amongst likeminded people - readers. As we become increasingly isolated as a society, even us homebody types need to get out occasionally. For those not wanting to chat or make small talk, silent, but shared reading time is perfect.
Read with me videos are everywhere online - famous and not so famous people film themselves reading a book, to themselves, or out loud. Pick your time from 20 mins or over an hour and sit back. Picture cute surrounds, candles, steaming hot drink, pets and pyjamas. Again watching these videos provides connection, feeling like you are sharing this time and the experience of reading with others.
Book trends - booktok, bookstagram and the above are all signs that young people value books, physical books and reading. Which is great!
Pushback against our increasing addiction to screentime is helping, along with the 'slow movement' and need to switch off.
I am going to search out a silent book club near me, or create one if needed.
